STORY OF A HOMELESS MAN AND A WOMAN IN KING’S CROSS STATION.
MAN
Around the hours of 3am in the morning I went down King’s Cross Station so that I can hear the story of homeless people in London. It was a very hostile environment and one of the homeless men was very angry at me for asking them if they wanted to tell me their story on how they became homeless. I had to keep my nerve down and be patient with him while I speak to his friends, since he didn’t feel like speaking to me.
I was lucky enough that one of the homeless guys said he won’t mind speaking to me if I don’t record his face, I accepted and I asked if I’ll do an audio then since he didn’t want to do a visual interview.
He refused to tell me his name for personal reasons which I had to respect. He told me, as he hastily lit his cigarettes, shivering as he explained to me, on how he was kicked out of the house by his girlfriend because they had a misunderstanding which he can’t reveal to me.
He told me that the government don’t care about the homeless situation and said they only speak about it but they hardly do anything about it. He mentioned rehabilitation and how he wants to get off the street and wish he had help to start a new beginning and he told me that he has been sleeping rough for 6 months. He was telling me about his medical condition before Shelly one of the homeless lady asked me if I have a cigarrettes.
WOMANSHELLY
Shelly is a 37 year old mom with 5 kids and she became homeless after her partner was beaten by 5 teenagers after he refused to give them cigarettes when he was asked. Shelly said her partner was beaten thoroughly and they had to admit him for a while which kept him out of work and it was hard for him to pay the house rents and as a result of that the landlord kicked them out of their home.
I asked Shelly about her kids and she told me they now lives with their dad and the stepmom whom she said is a wonderful woman and she is very happy for her because she don’t have any trouble seeing her kids every week and the kids has never complained about their stepmom.
I asked her if she had ask for help in any of the homeless organisation and she said she has been in Cambridge and then she went to Croydon but they kept on rejecting her and the street of London has become her home.
