STORY OF A HOMELESS MAN AND A WOMAN IN KING’S CROSS STATION.

MAN

Around the hours of 3am in the morning I went down King’s Cross Station so that I can hear the story of homeless people in London. It was a very hostile environment and one of the homeless men was very angry at me for asking them if they wanted to tell me their story on how they became homeless. I had to keep my nerve down and be patient with him while I speak to his friends, since he didn’t feel like speaking to me.

I was lucky enough that one of the homeless guys said he won’t mind speaking to me if I don’t record his face, I accepted and I asked if I’ll do an audio then since he didn’t want to do a visual interview.

He refused to tell me his name for personal reasons which I had to respect. He told me, as he hastily lit his cigarettes, shivering as he explained to me, on how he was kicked out of the house by his girlfriend because they had a misunderstanding which he can’t reveal to me.

He told me that the government don’t care about the homeless situation and said they only speak about it but they hardly do anything about it. He mentioned rehabilitation and how he wants to get off the street and wish he had help to start a new beginning and he told me that he has been sleeping rough for 6 months. He was telling me about his medical condition before Shelly one of the homeless lady asked me if I have a cigarrettes.

WOMANSHELLY

Shelly is a 37 year old mom with 5 kids and she became homeless after her partner was beaten by 5 teenagers after he refused to give them cigarettes when he was asked. Shelly said her partner was beaten thoroughly and they had to admit him for a while which kept him out of work and it was hard for him to pay the house rents and as a result of that the landlord kicked them out of their home.

I asked Shelly about her kids and she told me they now lives with their dad and the stepmom whom she said is a wonderful woman and she is very happy for her because she don’t have any trouble seeing her kids every week and the kids has never complained about their stepmom.

I asked her if she had ask for help in any of the homeless organisation and she said she has been in Cambridge and then she went to Croydon but they kept on rejecting her and the street of London has become her home.

ABOLISHING FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM)

IMG_0323.jpg

A mother had complications in labour because of FGM.

Female Genital Mutilation, which refers to the cutting of women clitoris is a popular cultural tradition amongst Africans and they strongly believe that it is for the best of their female children to undergo this cultural performance.

Forty years ago Dr Edna Aden, a midwife from Somalia brought the issues of girls being cut illegal to the United Nation (UN) but she couldn’t get the support she needed to terminate such act around Africa because it is a great tradition that was passed from one generation to another and that’s why it will take more years for such tradition to be abolish.

Some of the other reason why the eradication procedures of FGM in society is moving so slow it because there are activists that are in full support of the cutting of girls. For example Dr Tatu Kamau, Kenya ministry of health administrator who has become very famous for supporting the legalisation of FGM and she also filed a petition in July 2017 to overturn Kenya’s Prohibited FGM Act, which was passed in 2011.

She described the prohibition of FGM act, which she intends to argue that criminalizing female genital mutilation is a punishment to women who observe their culture and it makes other people that practice their own culture to feel superior to theirs.

This cultural performance has become increasingly popular around the world especially in the UK where a record of 100,000 girls and women were made to undergo an illegal cutting.

There are 1,960 FGM cases presented to social workers between 2017/18 compared to 970 cases during the previous year.

There are numerous cases that has been fought in court regarding illegal cutting of women. Last year a father faced the Old Bailey court for organising and performing female genital mutilation on daughter, which he denied but the little girl told the court that she was bitterly in tears and she was begging her father not to allow the people he arranged, to perform the cultural procedures of cutting her.

The issue of female genital mutilation has become known to the UK government and the public that it is of a high risk to perform the cultural procedures in UK, so for that reason parents move their female child to Africa whenever they’re going for holiday to perform the cultural rituals of performing FGM.

The NHS has also take interest over this matter and I spoke to one of the HIV clinical nurse in Ealing hospital about the risk and diseases or viruses surrounding FGM practice. She was very insightful about the implications surrounding this practice and she explained about the risk of contacting HIV through this practice.

GOVERNMENT STRUGGLING WITH HOMELESSNESS

STAGGERING NUMBER OF 320,000 HOMELESS

IMG_2948.jpg

The government are still clueless over the issue of homelessness in Britain, after they promised to tackle the rise of homeless crisis but the number of homeless people rises to 4%, which is 13,000 people homeless every year, according to Shelter.

Newham in East London have the highest number of rough sleepers in England with 14,500 people are in temporary accommodation, but it is of no guarantee of a permanent home and 1 in every 24 people are homeless.

The entire London 170,000 people are homeless and 1 in every 52 people are homeless, Westminister have the most rough sleepers, which is of no surprise considering it is the main centre of tourist attraction and the capital main centre and that’s why they had the most rough sleepers cause of it attraction. Even the country richest borough Kensington and Chelsea have over 5000 homeless people which is 1 in every 29 people in that borough are homeless.

Camden have the second most rough sleepers, most of its rough sleepers stayed in Kings Cross Station and they felt passionate about the government clueless methods of tackling homelessness.

Homeless organisations like New Horizons which based in Camden borough are fighting hard to tackle the increase of homelessness in the country especially with young people that are homeless, they offer refer them to available accommodation, to keep them off the cold street of London.

I contacted the New horizons for an insight on how they operate but they told me I cannot walk straight to their office and expect an interview, so they told me to send them an email which I did but I had no reply other than automatic reply.

STRENGTH AND WEEKNESSES FOR THE VIDEO SOUND PRODUCT

STRENGTH

EDITING : I was really pleased with the way I edit my video sound production project. The reason why I said so, is because I didn`t get confused this time about the tools at all. I was well confident about what I was doing and I know every single tool that I wanted to use for my sound video.

I was careful and very organized on how I should use my sounds for every single scene that was in the video. It was not hard at all because every single tools that I wanted to use I know where I can find it and I know exactly where I supposed to place such instrument or tool in my video sound. For example tools like the fade tool; it was easy for me to use because I know where it can be found and I also know the use of it, which is about making the sound to be in a smooth and a rhythm way.

It was really necessary for me to already knew these tools because if it was`t for the podcast edit wherein I had to learn about the use of sound tools which gives me a great brief and in depth about the use of the tools and where exactly these tools are suppose to be.

IDEAS  OF WHAT SOUND I SHOULD USE: My ideas about my sound was absolutely brilliant because I download sounds that actually makes sense with every single scene that I want to use the sound on. The sound selection is really relevant to the video scene because it will be crazy to put sound that sound emotional for a scene that only have happy scene. It does not make no sense to match up or place sounds that dos not relate to the scene and that’s why I think mine was brilliant because I carefully chose sounds that will be of an absolute sense to the scene.

WHAT DIDN’T WENT WELL

PUTTING LOTS OF SOUNDS ON MY VEG VIDEO: The reason why I put a lots of sounds on my veg video was because I couldn’t find the right sounds that I was looking for, to match up with the veg video scenes.  I couldn’t find the right sounds that I was looking for on youtube, so I had to chose the sounds that were available on youtube for my veg video sound.

WHAT WENT WELL:

PUTTING LONG SOUND ON THE ENTIRE VEG VIDEO: I put a long sound track on my veg video, which contains a sound different sounds that can be heard in the kitchen when a person is cooking.

The reason why I put this sound is because I want my audience or the person that will be watching and listening to the sounds to know the setting of the video or the location where the video was shot.

It makes more sense when I put a  kitchen sound on the full veg video because the entire video was based in the kitchen  and it was about cooking thats why I put a different the long kitchen sound track.

WEAKNESSES:

TIME MANAGEMENT: It was hard for me to work very quickly to meet up or finish before time.

It will be really great for me to work very fast, by that way I will be able to review my work and then improve my work and correct some spelling mistakes.

STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES FOR MY AUDIO PODCAST

STRENGTH

RECORDING VOICE LEVEL:  The record of my voice level was in a great position because I actually set up myself first before saying a word for my Podcast topic.

For me to have a great recording voice so that there won`t be a lot of break sound or a low level tone of my voice, when recording the podcast. I had to create a script for my podcast topic so that there won`t be a lots of break and it will be  more clearer and understandable for the audience to listen. I wouldn`t want my audience to start tearing up there ears just to get the words that I am saying that`s why I had to make my voice will be in a volume where it won’t be too loud or low for people to listen.

MY TOPIC FOR MY PODCAST: This was really important for me because I had to make sure that I choose a topic that will make people feel more interesting to listen to my podcast. I had to choose sport issue specifically football, so that I can engage more football fans to listen to it. I hit the nail on it head really well because I made my point about what exactly the podcast is about so that everyone will get the message that I am sending out through my podcast.

If I didn`t choose a good topic for my podcast and also make an important point about the reason for your podcast, then there won`t be any reasons for me to go further in creating the podcast because it won`t make sense to the public . It is imperative that I make my point really great because a podcast is meant for people to listen, not just for me. So it was important that I hit my point  so that my audience will get what the

WEAKNESSES

EDITING

It was confusing for me when using Logic Pro to edit my podcast, considering the facts that it was my first time but as time went on I got along with the tools but there were tools that I did not used properly. Below are the things that I did not think it went well with my podcast. The software was confusing for me to use the right and appropriate tool at first, it was only when I had to asked my teacher for every single tool that OI want to use for my podcast that’s when my podcast went well in terms of editing.

I hate the facts that I had to asked my teacher for most of the tools that I used when editing my podcast.

CONCENTRATION: I need to focus more on my work instead of listening to what my other class mates are saying or talking about. It is imperative that I focus on  my work because that will make my work to be more professional and to be in a great form when editing my podcasts. I think it was because of I didn`t concentrate when my teacher was explaining on how to use the tools for my podcast when editing, that makes me to start asking my teacher for most of the tools again when he had already explained it to the class.

FADING AT THE END OF MY PODCAST: I didn’t fade at the end of my podcast which happens about 2 minutes 30 seconds and it makes my podcast not to end well. It would’ve been great if I had use the fade tool at the end of my podcast so that it won’t be cut out like the way it is now.

If I had used the fade tool at the end of my podcast, my audience will understand that the podcast has now ended than to end the podcast without no fade tool which makes the audience to think that the podcast was cut out not knowing it is the actual end of the podcast.

TIME MANAGEMENT: This is very important to me because I spent too much time when I was editing my podcast. IO need to manage my time so that I can catch and evaluate and then improve on the podcast after listening to it. It makes my work to be more great if I review and then improve it.

DESCRIPTION OF FILM SOUNDS

DIEGETIC SOUND: Is a sound that the character can hear For example if a door was shut close the character can hear it.

NON DIEGETIC: This type of sound can be defined as a sound that the character can’t hear. For example the sound track of Home Alone the characters will never be able to hear it, it can only be heard by the Audience.

FOLEY: Foley  sound is a sound that is based on emphasis. For example if a character is walking, they will emphasise the sound of the foot steps of the character. Foley is more like a add up sound from the original sound of an object or anything in the film scene but it is done after the film was made not during the actual scene it is after the end of the film end.

EVALUATION FOR MY PODCAST

EVALUATION FOR MY PODCAST

CHANNEL EQ

This is the Channel EQ, which is basically about putting some different kinds of sound or change your sound of your voice and also to clear the noisy voices or sounds in the background of your podcast.

It help me to reduce the loud voices that was playing in the background of my podcast, which makes it more easy for people to listen your own voice of your podcast rather than the noisy voices that doesn’t suppose to be in the podcast.

It is also about the base off and base on, which is about reducing the sound of your voice or make it louder.

I actually really find it nice and cool after reducing the voices that was playing in my podcast background.

RECORDING LEVEL

This is the level of my voice, which I recorded and beneath is the instrumental beat I used so it can go along with my voice.

Recording level should always be at the same level of the rest of the podcast recording because that shows exactly how a good podcast should be recorded.

FADING

The fading tool is basically about making your voice sound or the instrumental tune to be more nice and smooth when starting the podcast or ending the podcast. So it was important for me to use the fade tool so that my voice will not just cut off just like that it will be like dragging nice and smooth.

GOLD VERB TOOL

This is the Gold Verb tool, which is basically for the use of balancing the sound of your voice in a high quality, the density and the timing of your voice.

SILVER VERB TOOL

This is the reverb system, which is basically about changing the environment of your podcast. It is more like a fake way of putting any kind of environment sound. I actually change my environment as a radio room.

COMPRESSOR

Compressor is basically about reducing and making your voice to be loud so it could be more level with the other recording voice. It is basically making the recording voice to be level with the same quality it could be high or low.

I actually use this tool because I didn’t want my voice to be loud at one end and to be low at another end so I used it to level the voice so it can be equal or level.

If I didn’t use this tool my recording voice will be unstable it would have been sound high and low which is not good for people to listen to because of the poor level of my voice.

This is a screen shot of how I bounce my podcast. The idea of bouncing the podcast is basically to make the podcast to be as an mp3 and also to change the sample rate and also to know whether if your podcast is in a good and a right way to be uploaded.

This bounce unit also allows you to write the name of your podcast and also to see whether the out put is on the right track.

This unit is basically to know whether your set up of your podcast is in a right track before bouncing it.

I did this because I needed to upload my podcast in the right track before even bouncing it I had to change the destination tool to an mp3 so that people can hear it.

CYCLE

This screen shot is basically about how I drag the point tool on top of my recording voice to be green before ever bouncing the podcast because without dragging that tool and also to be green it means that you won’t be able to bounce the podcast. So the cycle tool is important if you want to bounce your podcast.

This is the URL address of my podcast, which I uploaded in my word press account.

With word press people can know now that I have uploaded my podcast and they will also have access in listening to it.

MY MURDER REVIEW

My Murder is a British film based on a true life story of a boy called Shakilus Townsend. In the movie the boy Shakilus was a boy that just came out of prison and then decided to change his life style of living in a more prospective ways.

The boy Shakilus tried very hard not to get distracted about his new decision to be a change boy but he can`t stay away from his past life style. He was tried to stay focus until one beautiful girl take his attention from his prospective. Girls are the kind of things that young people just can`t help staying away.

Another reason that the movie is basically based on young people is the slangs words they used in the film, the characters in the film all spoke in a slangs way.

The smoking, gangs, rap music and knives where all shown in the film of my Murder. There were lot of gang members in the film and also smoke of drugs, violence scenes. Violence scenes like the stabbing of Shakilus when she got set up by the girl that he thought she was nothing like a gang girl. He got stabbed by the gangs with knives for like 6 to 7 times.

HOW DID MY MURDER HIT THE TARGET OF YOUNG TEENAGERS: The film gets a lot of teenager’s attention because it is based on the life style of teenager’s ways of living. For example the knives, gangs, drugs and drinks and the violence catches teenagers attentions  because most of these things that have just mentioned, teenagers in London get involved a lot in this kind of life style.  The film itself was set up in London and it was a true story of a boy that died of that kind of situation in London. So the film was basically about teenager’s ways of living.

Ways My Murder Understood By It Target Audience: The film was understood by it Audience because of the tragic deaths of the boy Shakilus which was used as a metaphor for young teenagers lives in the film. So it was understood by the teenagers because the film is about their lives and it could be any of the teenagers in London to be in the death situation like the boy Shakilus and the burial of the boy in the film makes teenagers to see themselves in that kind of situation because that’s the kind of life they are living.

MY CONCLUSIONS ABOUT MY MURDER:  My conclusion about my Murder is that, it really hits it target because of the theme, setting and background music of the film.

The Theme is basically about the main point of the film which is about a young boy get killed because of a girl by a gang. This kind of situation makes most teenagers to be aware of not getting in to that kind of situation because it is basically about the life style of most teenagers in London.

The Setting also got teenagers attention in London because the film was based or set up in London. It was a true story that happened in London and they made the film in London and the accent also got their attentions.

The sound track or the music of the film also played a lot in the attentions of the teenagers in London because most teenagers in London listen to that kind of music. The music in the background was more about gang songs.

Drugs and Drinks that was included in My Murder film also hit the target (teenagers).

                        LIVE TO REMAIN BULLET POINTS

How Media Industry Identify Audiences for its Products

  • The age group of characters: which is based on teenagers  age group
  • The main theme about the audience which is about immigrants and their different lives and about their struggles in settling in London
  • The Race, religion and tradition and customs of the characters
  • The setting of the film which was based in London
  • Things like clubbing, drugs and violence also included in the film and that catches teenagers attentions

How Media Products are Constructed For Specific Audience

The age                                                   The Accent

Sexual abuse                                         The different ethnic groups

Religions or customs and belief             Change of Identities

Race                                                        Club, drinks drugs

Immigrants                                              Violence

LIVE TO REMAIN

How Audiences can Respond To Media Products

I don`t think it is strange to immigrant audience because some of them might have been in that kind of situation which makes them feel like their stories has been told

It is shocking to other audiences that are not immigrant because they haven`t being in that position.

The clubbing, drugs and drinks is not shocking to the audience

The struggling to get a live to remain is not shocking as well to the audience.

HOW MEDIA IDENTIFY AUDIENCES FOR IT PRODUCTS

The film Live to Remain is basically about immigrants in different countries that have different struggles from their countries and also about their struggling in settling in the UK.

This film was shots in London and most of the characters are teenagers; it contains different stories background of different immigrants.  This story was directed by Bruce Goodson and the writer of the film is Charlotte Colbert.

The media industry classifies this film as 15 which is basically unsuitable for kids that are 14 because of the content scene of the film.

Age: The age rate of the film characters is based on teenagers characters like Omar, Abdul ,Zizidi they are all teenagers.

ETHNICITY: The ethnicity of the film characters is wide because of the immigrants where from different countries some of them are from Africa, Asia or Pakistan

FORGE IDENTITY :The movie also explains how people change their identity just to get in the country like Omar he is a Taliban he had to change his Identity because the British people sees Taliban as a terrorist and that would’ve made Omar not to be in the Uk if he told them his real identity.

ACCENT: The accent of the characters where all different because of the ethnicity or the countries they are from so some of the have the Kenya accent some even could speak English like Abdul.

CLUB LIFE, DRINKS AND SMOKE: Shows the life of young teenagers in London and some of the immigrants also try to adapt to that kind of life because they are teenagers even though some of them might not have the access to go to club back then in their different countries that they were from like Zizidi she even find it hard to even put on a makeup or even to know how to work on high hill shoes.

VIOLENCE: Violent is pretty based on teenagers they have different fights for different issues like Omar and Abdul when Omar was threatening Abdul about keeping his mouth shot about his true identity.

HOW MEDIA AUDIENCE CAN BE CONSTRUCTED FOR A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE

The media audiences is basically constructed for a specific audience by the age, sex, setting, the theme of the film, content scene Violent, Race

The film live to remain was constructed for teenagers because of the age type

The Age of most of the main character where all teenagers and that gives teenagers in London the eyesight to like have more interest in the film because the film is basically based on their age group.

SEX: The sex of the characters need to be a mix of sex, it should be both male and female the directors can`t just make a whole film and just have only one sex it has to be interactive because if it does not contain both different sex then people will get bored of it they might even take the film as a sexism film which is really bad for business.

RACE: The race of the characters is also important because with knowing the root of the characters the film might as well be of no beginning because the race of the characters in the film Live to Remain goers with the main theme of the film because the film is basically about immigrants that came from different countries to settle in the UK. So obviously the race of the characters needs to be known by the audience.

REVIEW OF THE FILM LIVE TO REMAIN

The film live to remain is based on how immigrants from different countries struggled in the UK  just to get a Live to Remain visa and their different reasons to leave their various Home Country just to settle in the UK and how it is like to live in the UK.

The immigrants in the film were from different countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, Pakistan, Afghanistan.

Some of these immigrants didn`t just wanted to come in the UK but it was because of various reasons like one of the characters Zizidi she was sexually abuse she had no pride as a woman because seven men rape her and she got no saying and no one to speak for her. She was molested by the men in her country sexually, physically, emotionally.

She got so many scars on her back that was inflicted by the men that raped her , so she had no choice than to just settle in the UK because she feel safe in the UK.

Other characters like Omar show in the film that not every immigrant’s identity in the UK shows their true identity. Omar forge his identity because if he told the immigration officers that he is a Taliban they wouldn`t have given him a visa to stay in the UK , because Taliban are considered to be terrorist in the London and the immigration office will sees it as a threat to the lives of UK citizens.

The immigrants also find it different to adapt to the system in London because of the club lives the dress codes the weather it was different for them because the place they come from they have such access or see something like the things they saw in the UK.

The film itself is surrounded with teenagers but the struggle that most of them went through just to get their Live To Remain visa can also be surrounded with immigrants not just teenagers but immigrants that struggle to stay or to adapt to the weather or the clothing style etc.

The film also contains some violence scene like the part where Abdul decided to reveal the truth about Omar true identity and he later then slide the knife in his own neck because Omar had threaten to kill him if he ever tell the truth about his real identity.

So the film is basically based on teenager’s immigrants with their different reason to be in the UK and how it’s like to live in the UK and their struggle to have stay in the UK.
